Happy January!?!

It’s that season! No not Christmas or New Years. Don’t worry. I’m making a point to celebrate Christ’s birth and the amazing incarnation of God come to earth.

But for those of us who create publicity materials for various good organizations like Wycliffe Bible Translators and The Seed Company, it’s time to create new stories and publications for 2010.

This is both challenging and exciting. It’s challenging to keep up with deadlines and meet expectations. But there’s a certain good adrenaline that comes when you’re on deadline and retelling exciting stories of God at work.

What kind of stories?

  • Kids giving up their video games for people in other countries
  • New help to get the work of Bible translation done more quickly
  • How losing all your possessions might be used to transform your neighborhood

Check out the last issue of SeedLinks to get a taste and I’ll let you know when the next issue is wrapped up.

Snow in Texas

2009 December 2

Yes, it does happen. Every so often we get snow that sticks on the ground for a little while here in Texas. Of course, it’s gone already. Just hours later, all traces were washed away by the rain and it looks like a muted Fall all over again.

See more photos of the temporary snow here at Flickr.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining. My work took me to the beautiful coast of California for a number of years. (Hello California friends!) And I saw far less snow there.

God has regularly reminded me that I need to appreciate the places I live in for the beauties given in that place. In Texas, it’s the beauty of softer falls, of egrets lined up on the creek edge, of big blue skys, of multiple close cities and of some amazing people.

It’s too easy to miss out on the beauty of today when you’re wishing for the beauty of yesterdays or tomorrows. I don’t want to live that life.

A quick plug:
My friends at OneVerse are offering you the chance to support one verse worth of Bible translation by sponsoring that verse for another person. You sign up. They send you a card. You send that card to the person you want to honor with a note. It’s $26 well spent.

More Than We Need

Does it seem like Thanksgiving is coming fast to you? I’m amazed we’re already at this point in the year. But soon I’ll be eating turkey with friends and calling family to see how they’re celebration is turning out. All this past month, my good friend Stephen has been teaching about thankfulness each Sunday. So as I read this blog post about trusting God’s provision, it was a timely reminder.

God has provided for me in amazing ways through family and friends. God has given me work that is both meaningful and engaging. God has put very cool people in my life. It’s not a question of if God will provide needs or be there. It’s a question of trusting and recognizing that provision as adequate for the time I’m in.

So as I seek to help friends who’s finances are tight… as I seek God’s way for me each day… as I measure my days and try to make the most of them… God will honor my obedience and make things possible I could never do on my own.

Thank you for being part of that already.
